Dr. Sarah McDermott received her DDS degree and certificate in orthodontics from University of Michigan School of Dentistry. While attending school, Sarah was very active as a volunteer in Give Kids a Smile and Special Smiles. She was also heavily involved in several dental organizations (American Association of Orthodontists, Michigan Dental Association, Scholars Program for Dental Leadership and Xi Psi Phi (ZIPS) Dental Fraternity). Dr. McDermott worked as a teaching assistant at the university in addition to completing several rotations at multiple Michigan dental providers.
Dr. McDermott is a recipient of several achievements throughout her educational career both in undergrad and graduate studies. Most impressive, Dr. McDermott received her ABO certification in March 2016. A dentist who graduates from a specialty program becomes an orthodontic specialist who is eligible to become board certified through the voluntary examination process of The American Board of Orthodontics (ABO). A board certified orthodontist is an orthodontist who has gone through hundreds of additional hours of preparation to demonstrate their judgment, skills and knowledge required for providing the highest level of patient care. It takes intense dedication to become a board certified orthodontist. Less than 20% of orthodontists are currently board certified.
Dr. McDermott originally hails from Germantown, WI and completed her undergraduate degree at UW-Madison where she met her husband, Sean. Sarah, Sean, and their 3 year old son, Will, enjoy traveling, football (Badgers and Packers), rowing and time outdoors. If weather permits them to remain inside they enjoy cooking, watching movies and reading.
